Managing your account

Manage your ShieldFive account, update your credentials, and understand the difference between login security and encryption security.

How do I sign up or sign in?

Click "Get started" or "Sign in" from the homepage to access the authentication page. You'll need:

  • A valid email address
  • A password with at least 6 characters

After signing up, verify your email and sign in to access your secure Files dashboard.

Do I need to verify my email?

Yes. Email verification is required before you can upload files. After signing up, check your inbox for a verification email and click the confirmation link. If you don't see it:

  • Check your spam/junk folder
  • Wait a few minutes and check again
  • Contact support if you still haven't received it

How do I reset my master password?

Your master password unlocks your vault, so resetting it requires the recovery key that was shown to you once during signup:

  1. Start the password-reset flow from the sign-in page
  2. Enter your recovery key when prompted
  3. Set a new master password

Important: Without your recovery key, no one — including ShieldFive — can reset your master password or decrypt your files. If you lose both your master password and your recovery key, your files cannot be recovered.

How do I change my email address?

To update your account email:

  1. Sign in and navigate to Settings
  2. Open the Account section
  3. Enter your new email address
  4. Check both your old and new email for confirmation messages

  5. Click the confirmation link in the new email

Your email will only change after you confirm the new address.

How do I sign out?

To sign out of ShieldFive:

  • Click your account menu in the top navigation
  • Select "Sign out"

You'll be signed out and redirected to the homepage. Your vault key will be cleared from memory. You'll need to sign in again to access your files.

What happens when I delete my account?

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. When you delete your account:

  • All your encrypted files are permanently deleted
  • All folders and share links are removed
  • Your subscription is immediately cancelled
  • Core account data is removed, with limited audit/compliance records retained where legally required

Warning: Download any files you want to keep before deleting your account. After deletion, no one can recover your files or account.

Can ShieldFive or support recover my master password or keys?

No. Your master password derives your vault key in the browser, and we store neither the password nor the key:

  • Master password: Unlocks your vault. Resetting it requires your recovery key — there is no email-based reset.

  • Recovery key: Shown once at signup, it is the only fallback if you forget your master password. Without it, no one can regain access.

ShieldFive never holds your keys, so support cannot reset your master password or restore your files without your recovery key. Store the recovery key offline — printed, in a password manager you control, or on a hardware token.
