Nothing is uploaded — it stays in your browser
Encryption runs entirely in your browser with qpdf compiled to WebAssembly. Your file and password never reach our servers — turn off your network and it still works. The output uses standards-compliant AES-256, so it opens in Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, or any PDF reader.
Need to send this PDF to someone, or collect files from clients? ShieldFive does end-to-end encrypted sharing and intake — nothing readable ever touches our servers.
Questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to remove the password?
- No. The PDF is decrypted entirely in your browser with qpdf compiled to WebAssembly. Your file and the password never leave your device — turn off your network and it still works.
- Do I need to know the current password?
- Yes. This unlocks a PDF whose password you already have — it removes the protection so the copy opens without a password. It is not a way to break into a PDF you cannot open; that is not possible with real encryption.
- What do I get back?
- An unprotected copy of the same PDF, downloaded to your device. The original protected file is untouched.
- Can I add a password instead?
- Yes — switch to “Add password”, or use the password-protect PDF tool. It applies standards-compliant AES-256 encryption, also entirely in your browser.
